PROF. STEVE AZAIKI’S MID-TERM SCORECARD AS YELGA/KOLGA FEDERAL LAWMAKER (2019-2021)

        Within two years of representation, about 737 constituents, 54 communities and 10 groups have so far benefited  from Yelga/Kolga   Federal Constituency Projects, facilitated by Prof. Steve Azaiki, OON, MHR, in collaboration with the respective MDAs in charge, despite the impact of the covid-19 scourge and economic downturn. 

        From the first quarter of the second legislative session of the 9th National Assembly, in June 11, 2019 to the the Second Session, which began in June 2020 and ending in June 11, 2021 the  following programmes/projects, starting from the most recent, have been executed,  going or awaiting award by the respective MDAs:

✓Construction of Skills Acquisition Centre, Polaku-Gbarain, Federal Ministry of Works and Housing (ongoing)

✓Renovation of Primary School classroom blocks, Akaba, Federal Ministry of Works and Housing (completed)

✓Renovation of Primary School classroom blocks, Swali, Federal Ministry of Works and Housing (completed).

✓Construction of Yenebebeli-Yenaka Link Road (ongoing). 

✓Payment of WAEC and NECO fees for indigent students, 2021; 2020; 2019 sessions, respectively (Azaiki Foundation’s annual private reach-out programme).

✓Sponsorship of leadership training programme at GOTNI, Abuja, for Constituents (Azaiki Foundation’s private annual human capital development scheme).

✓Empowerment programme for 300 women, mostly widows in small scale fashion designing trade, with sewing machines given to each beneficiary, in collaboration with the National Directorate of Employment (NDE).

✓Empowerment of 50 youths through computer skills and seed money, a project facilitated by the lawmaker, in collaboration with the NDE

✓Equipping of 50 youths with soap and cosmetology skills and seed money to venture into small scale production, a project facilitated by the lawmaker, in partnership with the NDE

✓Distribution of water pumping machines to some Constituents

✓16 numbers of fish farms, 4 each in 4 communities: Odi and Kaiama in Kolga, Yenebebeli and Ikolo in Yelga, in partnership with Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development

✓40 youths trained, 10 from the 4 communities each to man the fishponds which are already doing well, in collaboration with Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development

✓Solar-powered electricity street lights in 8 communities: Odi, Kaiama and Gbarambiri in Kolga; Yenaka, Yenebebeli 1, Yenebebeli II, Ikolo and Koroama in Yelga, in collaboration with Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development

✓Sports/games sponsorship and promotion in Yenagoa Town (Azaiki’s Foundation private reach-out prigramme)

✓Sponsorship of Azaiki Young Football Stars Tournament, 2020 (Azaiki Foundation’s private  annual reach-out)

✓Construction of residential quarters for teachers, in selected primary schools (awaiting award by the ministry in charge)

✓10 musical band sets donated to 6 churches and 4 secular musical groups, 1 each

✓Cultural enlightenment programme for 100 youths, in collaboration with National Institute of Cultural orientation (NICO), training in traditional arts and crafts, perfumes and detergents, with seed money

✓Distrubution of electricity generating sets, 1 each to 40 Primary Health Care Centres, in collaboration with the Federal Government’s Boarder Communities Development Commission (BCDA) 

✓Supply and installation of Solar street lights at Ikarama-Okordia in Yelga; Gbarama-Opokuma, Kolga

✓COVID-19 Enlightenment campaigns; donation of safety gadgets and campaign materials (courtesy of Azaiki Foundation)

✓Donation of food stuff, confectionaries, noodles, beverages, etc, to some of the vulnerable people, especially the aged (Courtesy Azaiki Foundation)

✓SPONSORED TWO STRATEGIC MOTIONS ON MATTERS OF URGENT PUBLIC IMPORTANCE

  1. Motion on COVID-19 pandemic, in collaboration with some colleagues, and follow-up letters to the Executive Arm, which facilitated release of funds in tranches for research; preparation for school resumption and establishment of research centres for COVID-19 and other infectious diseases in six Federal universities in the six zones.
  2. Motion on East-West Road dualization, in collaboration with South-South Reps, and follow-up letters to the Executive Arm, which expedited release of in tranches, and recently N7Billion to Setraco for completion of work

✓Joint voices with colleagues and Niger Delta pressure groups, e.g. INC, MOSIEND and IYC, to kick against the obnoxious Water  Resources Bill 2020, and wrote letters to the Speaker and President Muhammed Buhari not to re-forward the controversial bill

✓Accelerated motions and letters to President Buhari on insecurity and urgent need to rejig the security apparatus

✓Collaborating with Obogoro Community leaders to secure budgetary provision or release of ecological emergency funds for a shoreline protection against devastating coastal erosion; has written letters to President Buhari, Ecological Fund Office, Minister of Niger Delta and met them on the matter. Recently wrote and  met Reps Speaker, and awaiting outcome.

✓RECOGNITIONS & AWARDS: In recognition of his indelible leadership performance since assuming office, Prof. Steve has received over a dozen awards from notable organizations. Some of them include; Democracy Heroes Award (2019), Nation Builders Achievers Award (2020), Topflyers International Awards (2020), Global Forum for Peace Justice & Human Rights (2020), RATTAWU Excellence Awards (2021), PETROAN Goodwill Ambassadors Award (2021) among others.
